What breed of pigs do you have?
Oh I just love quail. Ours died of old age, really need to look into replacing them.

 Hi Everyone.

My name is Pam..I live in N.W. Arkansas. When I joined (thanks for the invite KikoFaerie! :) ) I noticed many names that are familiar to me from other goat chat forums. :)

Our farm is run in simplicity, we believe in making things simple and keeping it simple..we keep out the hoop-la and stay with the basic's of raising livestock. We raise Horses, Cattle and of course Goats.

I was born and raised on a farm, riding horses since I was 9 yrs old, and showed horses until I was in my mid 30's. I also showed cattle and hogs. We've had goats now for about 7 yrs. We started out just simple, bought some pygmys for pets, and grew from there. Now we raise Boer, Kiko and Boki. Most of which are registered animals, but we do have some that are commercial stock as well.

Some of you may know me from Goatweb, some may know me from Goat Talk..I see some of you are here. Hope to get to know all of you that I don't know already, very soon. :D

Hi,
My name is Dennis Wiley, my wife Mary and I live on a small farm near Emporia. I grew up on a farm milking cows and just kind of evloved into dairy goats. We have had almost all of the breeds, but have finally settled on La Manchas, they are just lovely creatures. Our children are grown and pretty much gone now, so in my spare time I like to play around with photography, and when I can find them, I refurbish and redo old milking machines. I occassionally have them for sale. I have been involved in 4-H, especially in photography and dairy goats. I like the idea of getting to know others in and near Kansas. It is nice to meet all of you. Dennis

Birdie!! Hey you! Welcome! I am so glad you are here! I remember you from GW. (my nick there was prairiewolf75) I hope you take the time to tell us more about your goats, I would like to learn more about Kikos and Bokis, I have one Boer/Kiko cross and I really like her. This is her first winter and she has developed the most soft, fluffy hair I have ever seen on a goat, it kind of just stands out, it doesn't feel like the other goats hair and some of the longer hairs has an almost kinky look to it, does any of your Kiko's have hair like that? My Boers never have.

Welcome, Dennis! Sounds like you stay plenty busy!
Birdie - glad to see you could land on our little branch of the forum world for a bit!
Jen - the only difference in my Boers and Kikos with the cold weather I have noticed is the Kikos do seem to have a bit thicker winter coat. Almost like there is a thicker undercoat to it than the Boer girls have.

Hi Dennis! Welcome! I am glad you are here. You be sure and let us know when you have milking machines for sale! I would love to get one someday, not sure the cost is justified right now since we only have one dairy goat. I guess that means I need more dairy goats! (spoken like the true goat addict I am  ) I am happy the Kansas Country board is getting some members with dairy goat experience because my husband and I have always raised meat goats but I do want to get more into dairy goats too in the future.

Yes, Sunflower..I recognized you right away when I read your profile. I do remember you from G.W. :) Nice to see you again. How have you been? It's hard for me to call you Sunflower though..I just know you as prairiewolf..lol. I'll have to remember to call you by your new name ;)

Sunflower, I do have Kiko's and Boki's with that long curly angora type hair..and some of them keep it year round, and some shed it off in the summer. I have one 100% Boer with that hair coat that keeps it year round. K.F. posted a picture in G.T. of a goat breed that has the hair that some of mine have..K.F. do you have that picture in an area that can be easily posted here? If you do will you post it? I remember the name..if that will help...the breed was called Waipu..was suppose to be in the historic part of the kiko breed. That picture is exactly the way my Beauty girls hair coat is. If you can't find it K.F., I have it saved and can upload it to Photobucket and post it.

Sunflower, I have a bunch of Boki girls..and K.F. owns one father to a few of my girls. Oberon is the father to my Prince, and my Peaches. They are Boki and Peaches is now bred to my Kiko buck, Roady, so I'll have 75% Kiko kids on the ground soon. K.F. has the son and brother to one of my Does and I own his sister too..Finn, is a good boy, and ready to service a good herd. She had Ruddy Warrior, son and brother to two of mine here but she sold him already. :) He's got a really good home.

This spring my herd will triple in size..and I have to say, it's going to be exciting, but I'll never be totally ready for the herd size to triple! :?

We just purchased an awesome Boer Buck..from Peterson's Show Me Boers..his name is BoCephus..he's dynamic in every way possible for a Boer to be. Ennobled top and bottom in his entire back ground. His father was National Grand Champion 2006, and sold for $50,000.00. Other half siblings from last years birthings out of this same mom sold this last spring at the Boer auction for $16,000.00 for the Doe and $32,000.00 for the buck. This years birthing from this same Dam was two bucklings. I got one of them and the gal I bought him from is keep BoCephus's brother. I tried to get him first..no such luck, she wasn't selling. LOL.

Life sure gets interesting trying to figure out all these bloodlines..lol.

And before I forget..Welcome Dennis..nice to meet you. Sounds like your life is very interesting and very busy. Photography is an excellent pass time, and a good way to earn a few dollars here and there. :) Can't wait for you to share a few of your pictures. A good friend of mine is raising LaMancha and she at first didn't know what to think of them, but has grown to really love them. She's breeding PB Kiko to the LaMancha Does she has..she owns Princes half brother and the son of Oberon (K.F.'s Buck). I can't wait to see what that produces. It should be very interesting. ;)

The Waipu are one of New Zealand's rare breeds. While it is not a stated ancestor of the Kiko, one can assume that there may be some Waipu in there, since Kiko were developed from feral goats of New Zealand crossed with various dairy goats that were brought by colonial settlers of New Zealand. It would be logical to assume that ferals would have crossed somewhere along the way with Waipu.

The long angora type hair on a meat goat would be a sweet twist to blend with our Angora fiber :D

Ty Jama :)

You know, when I first came into these girls with this hair coat, I started asking the angora breeders I know about this hair coat. They began explaining to me that the coat they have is not angora..nor would it be good for shearing because it's not long enough and the gauge they go by isn't at all like my girls. My girls are angora soft though. And their hair is about 2 inches maybe a tad less long. Beauty (my 2 yr old boki doe) has the best coat of all of them, but Lily (my 1 and 1/2 yr old FB Boer Doe) has this same hair coat, only shorter in length. Neither one of these Does shed this hair off to a slick normal goat hair. They keep it year round. Now, my other girls with this hair coat, they shed it off in the spring and grow it back in the winter..it's super soft but not as long as Lily's or Beauty's hair coat. Super thick, you can't get to their hide through it. I have to keep it brushed out too, as it gathers all kinds of yuck inside it. I'm told this hair coat is more like a cashmere hair coat, than an angora hair coat..lesser quality according to the angora breeders I know.

I would love to know where they got that hair coat from, but since I don't know their genetics, or their parentage, I will never know. I know their mothers, but not their fathers or grand parents. These two girls aren't registered. Lily is a out of a commercial herd that I bottle raised due to Momma disowning her, and Beauty was 10 months old when I got her, and she could be registered, but the breeders didn't register her for the owner that I bought her from. I've been trying to track down the owners, since the gal I bought her from has complied with my messages left on her machine as to who the breeders were. I'd really like to register Beauty, because this little Doe throws some AWESOME kids.
